Hyrum W. Smith


Hyrum W. Smith, Chairman of the Board of Franklin Covey, has been motivating individuals to gain better control of their personal and professional lives through value-based time and life management since he helped created the company in 1984. Franklin Covey is a training and consulting firm specializing in life management and personal productivity. It is recognized globally for the Franklin Planner TM, which is used by more that 5 million people worldwide. In 1966, Hyrum married Gail Smith and they have six children. Hyrum graduated from Brigham Yong University in 1971. Ten years later, he created his own seminar company, Golden Eagle Motivation, and taught sales management. In 1982, he worked as a consultant for a time management company until he formed H.W. Smith and Associates. Then, in early 1984, The Franklin Institute was created, which today, as Franklin Covey trains more than 40,000 people each month. In 1992, Hyrum was awarded the S.R. Gallup Hall of Fame and Man of the Year award. The Brigham Young University Marriott School of Management also honored Hyrum as the International Entrepreneur of the Year in 1993. He is also the author of The 10 Natural Laws of Successful Time and Life Management, Where Eagles Rest, and Advanced Day Planner User's Guide, and is co-author of Excellence through Time Management.
