JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT CITY VOLUNTEER GUIDE

Volunteer Guide

Business Storefront At a Glance

Thank you for volunteering with Junior Achievement City! We are so excited to have you come and experience these students becoming adults for the day and running their very own city. This guide will prepare you to take on the hustle and bustle of the city as the students take on their first day of work ever!

On your visit you will be assigned to volunteer in one of the city’s storefronts to oversee the students’ day at work. Remember it is not your job to run the business—that is all up to them! You will be there to provide the proper guidance and assistance needed for them to be successful. We hope that you will share with them some of the life lessons you have learned about personal finance, business, employment, and how to be a good contributing citizen in the community.

As a volunteer you will be in charge of running the three main staff meetings in the business you are assigned. The first meeting is all about starting up their business to open. The second meeting will be in the middle of the day between breaks to check in on the students and make sure they are managing their finances correctly. Then the last meeting is right before they leave for the day. You will want to recap and discuss lessons learned. This volunteer guide has all three meetings broken down into small sections to make certain your experience as a volunteer for Junior Achievement City is efficient and effective.

Thanks again for volunteering with us and helping Junior Achievement reach our goal of “empowering young people to own their economic success!" See you soon!
